Detailed description

Topamax (also known as Topiramate) is an anticonvulsant medication manufactured and distributed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and prescribed to treat or control epilepsy, seizures, nerve pain, and migraine headaches.

Recent studies have shown that Topamax increases the risk of children being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or intellectual disability (ID) when the mother takes it during pregnancy. Plaintiffs allege that Janssen failed to adequately inform them of the risks to their unborn children. Settlements have been awarded in the range of $4 million or more to the plaintiffs.
